It's not "just a cleaning" ...
Bacteria, in the form of plaque, lives & thrives in the mouth. Poor oral health can lead to infection, tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss, diabetic complications, unhealthy eating habits, unhealthy social habits, poor quality of life & overall health, and low self esteem.
Good oral health is an important component of overall health. Achieving good oral health is a collaborative effort. It can be achieved by consuming healthy foods & drinks, daily brushing & flossing, and visiting your dentist & hygienist regularly.
Sadly, many people do not understand the value of regular check-ups & oral hygiene services. It's not "just a cleaning":
During hygiene appointments, our dentists & hygienists consider your:
- Health history
- Examine your head & neck
- Assess your teeth & gums
- Screen for oral cancer
- Develop an individual treatment plan with you to help you achieve and maintain optimum oral health.
We also individualize oral hygiene schedules based on individual needs vs. the standard 6 month protocol &/or what insurance companies may pay for.
Please keep in mind: Insurance coverage is cost-based & our recommendations are health based. Some patients are fine to visit annually, some every 9 months, some every 6, and some (those with gum/perio disease) benefit from a 3 month hygiene schedule. That said, we respect a patient's right to choose a hygiene schedule they are comfortable with.
