What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding involves your dentist bonding tooth-coloured composite resin to your tooth, matching the surrounding natural teeth.
The typical use case for dental bonding is repairing chipped or discoloured teeth. It can also be used to close gaps between teeth, make them appear longer, or change their shape or colour, resulting in a more symmetrical look.
The Process Behind Bonding
Dental bonding usually only requires one trip to the dentist's office and can usually be completed within 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.
In preparation for the bonding, your dentist will apply an etching solution to the surface of your tooth, and then apply a composite resin that matches the colour of your surrounding teeth.
The composite resin then gets molded into the correct shape and hardened in place using a high-intensity curing light.
Why Dental Bonding?
When it comes to minor cosmetic dental issues, such as cracked, gapped, or discoloured teeth, dental bonding may be an excellent solution.
This minimally-invasive procedure can give your teeth a more natural look, which is ideal if the tooth getting filled is visible when you smile.
The composite also helps strengthen your teeth, allowing you to enjoy meals without wondering whether applying pressure on your tooth will cause it to break or crack again.
